Marie Curie is known for the theory of radioactivity. Her partner in the lab was her husband, Pierre Curie. They started working together in 1898. She discovered radium and polonium. With the theory of radioactivity, she carried out the first research to treat tumors with radioactivity. Because of her studies, she was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry. She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris. To continue studying radium, she established the Radium University, which is also known as the Curie Institute.
