Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland on November 7, 1867. She was the 5th child in her family. Both of her parents were teachers. Her mom died of tuberculosis when she was 12, and after that, she went to a boarding school. When she was older, she started tutoring her sister. She earned a gold medal for academic excellence. After that she went to Paris to start her college education at the University of Paris. In 1893, she was the top student in the masters physics degree course. She finished her masters degree in 1894.
